Have you noticed how often one thing leads to another?
AS if battling to get on terms with a PC wasn't enough, I had to start an ezine catering to the lunatic fringe, naturally. Although this meant I was never bored this was at times a classic example of the 'fools rush in syndrome'.
A few months down the line and not struggling quite so much with all the technicalities, I realised I was not alone. Countless people still feel nervous and inadequate around a computer so, flushed with success from publishing Poignant Pearls & Potbellied Pigs, I embarked on a second ezine, Newbies, Nerds & Nitwits.

The aim was to convince people that a PC newbie, armed with the right information, will achieve a lot. Pam Allen and I 'met' when I used some of her articles in my ezines and, one thing leading to another, Pam suggested we create this website.

Before becoming a beachcomber I was a feature writer and editor. I live in Amanzimtoti, on the East Coast of KwaZuluNatal, South Africa, and, when not glued to a computer, can usually be found splashing in the sea with dogs. Of course I have become hooked on my PC but life would be quite dull without this ...

Close All Windows - RAM Escaping
MY computer addiction started years ago, when Windows was an infant and DOS was king. Don't know DOS? Consider yourself lucky. Being a curious person, I can't rest until I know how everything works, so over the years, I've built up an enormous store of computer information.
Somehow, I became the person to call, email, or visit if there was a problem with a computer, and being a tenacious sort, I refuse to quit until the problem is solved.

Enter Sheldene...After reading some of my 'tech' articles on a now defunct website, she contacted me and asked if I would contribute to her wonderful newsletter for newbies. After that successful pairing, I suggested we take the technical help one step further and create a website on the newbie and nitwit theme.

So here you have it...a website devoted to helping novices and 'experts' learn the ins and outs of computer usage.

In real life, I write a weekly column for our local newspaper, and product reviews for an online consumer site. I live in the great state of Oklahoma, where there is no sea to frolic in. I have a wonderful husband who tolerates my excessive computer time, two children, a herd of cats, and a gaggle of rats. Pet rats, of course.

In case you're wondering how a nitwit built a website...this software saved the day...

NoteTab Top-notch text editor which not only converts a document to HTML, it will strip the HTML tags if that's what you require. Makes working with 'tables' easy and has to be personally investigated as I cannot begin to enumerate all its 'tricks'. I used the freeware version (NoteTab Light) available Here
CSE HTML Validator Lite  This clever little thing (also freeware) checks your HTML code for errors, when you get the urge to write some. Click Validate to download it.

In addition I kept The NC Website Builder, a set of four extremely user-friendly eBooks, on my Desktop for quick reference. Visit Builder for a trial run.
